In general, the snake is an oviparous animal. However, there are species of snakes that do not lay eggs but that the babies spend a gestation period in their mother before being born, these are called ᴠɪᴠɪᴘᴀʀᴏᴜs snakes. Most snakes like rat snakes, corn snakes, and green snakes are oviparous, birthing and hatching eggs outside the body. Oᴠᴏᴠɪᴘᴀʀᴏᴜs snakes like rattlesnakes produce eggs within the female’s body, they are retained there until after hatching, then expelled outside the body as live babies. A particular species, for cobras like the king cobra, the spitting cobra, the spotted cobra, the female lays her eggs and she leaves her nest before her eggs hatch to avoid ᴇᴀᴛɪɴɢ her young, her offspring, her snakes. Indeed, the cobra snake is ophiophagous which means that it ᴇᴀᴛs other snakes. A female cobra snake lays 20 to 40 eggs after 2 months of mating. The size of its eggs is around 6 cm long and 3.4 cm wide. The king cobra is very particular because it is the only one to make a nest to put its eggs.
Cobras are a poisonous type of snake who are unable to hold their fangs down to immobilize prey so instead, inject them with venom. Female Cobras can lay anywhere from 20-40 eggs so it is most likely that the mother snake had not finished laying her hatch when she was moved. The egg can clearly be seen moving down the body of the snake and out of the vent. The vent serves as the only opening for snakes to release bodily excretions. it’s likely the snake would have gone on to lay several more when released into the forest. The egg can be seen moving down the snake’s muscular body towards the vent where the eggs are laid.
The cobra made its way into the street in front of the home and started laying eggs. Prasanna caught the snake later and released it in a nearby forest. He took the eggs with him and said the snakelings would be released after they hatch.
