Best friends come in all shapes and sizes, and apparently species if these two pals are any indication. Deep in the heart of Bali, Indonesia, you’ll find the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, also known as the Ubud Monkey Forest. The sanctuary is home and natural habitat for 1,049 Balinese Long Tailed monkeys.
The Balinese Long Tailed Monkeys, also known as crab eating macaques. They are intelligent, lively primates with a long history of attracting visitors to the sanctuary. They share strong family bonds and live in social groups. Due to their social groupings, it’s not unusual for them to help raise offspring that are not their own. These adorable monkeys attract approximately 10,000 visits to the Sacred Monkey Forest each month. It was one such visitor who was able to capture these images of the special relationship between a monkey and a kitten. A series of pictures capturing an unusual display of motherly love has left our hearts melting. When amateur photographer Anne Young visited Monkey Forest Park in Indonesia, she spotted a mismatched but adorable pair. A Macaque monkey was cradling a little kitten and it was clear that the two shared a deep and loving bond. Young snapped a few pictures of the sweet pair, and we’re obsessed.
The monkey seemed to genuinely care for the young feline. It groomed the cat and protected it from other monkeys. Fortunately, the other monkeys seemed to accept the cat. The monkey kept the cat pressed close to its chest as if it were a baby monkey. How the kitten wound up with the monkey isn’t clear. It could have been ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ by its mother, or it may have been a sᴛʀᴀʏ that wandered into the park. Either way, it has certainly found a home with this doting monkey.
