In a sʜᴏᴄᴋɪɴɢ incident on Monday morning which is believed to be the first of its kind in a local village, a greedy python who had eyes bigger than its ʙᴇʟʟʏ and Sᴡᴀʟʟᴏᴡᴇᴅ a fully grown antelope, reportedly chocked to Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in an attempt to ʀᴇɢᴜʀɢɪᴛᴀᴛᴇ its meal, but failed.
The 20ft-long python was seen rolling around with an abnormally large ʙᴇʟʟʏ in Baliavad village, near Gir wildlife sanctuary in the Indian state of Gujarat.
The snake had Sᴡᴀʟʟᴏᴡᴇᴅ the antelope after sᴛʀᴀɴɢʟɪɴɢ it to Dᴇᴀᴛʜ minutes earlier. It attempted to ʀᴇɢᴜʀɢɪᴛᴀᴛᴇ its meal, but failed.
The huge snake could barely move because of the size of the ᴘʀᴇʏ in his stomach, and ᴅɪᴇᴅ moments after eating it.
The presence of the oversized python captured the attention of villagers, with a crowd of onlookers quickly gathering around to watch the feast unfold.
Sunil Kumar, 28, who witnessed the entire episode, said: “I found the python lying on the road. It was sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟɪɴɢ to ᴅɪɢᴇsᴛ the animal it had sᴡᴀʟʟᴏᴡᴇᴅ.
“It was one of the most spectacular moments I have ever witnessed as the python was unbelievably huge.”
Pythons are able to dislocate their jaw to sᴡᴀʟʟᴏᴡ entire creatures whole. After one big meal they can go for several weeks without eating.
The incident, which took place on Monday morning is believed to be the first of its kind in the village but has led to concerns among snake experts.
Deputy Forest Conservator of R Senthilkumaran said: “Forest officials were informed and they rushed to the site to ascertain its condition.
“It sᴜᴄᴄᴜᴍʙᴇᴅ to the internal ɪɴᴊᴜʀɪᴇs caused by the sᴡᴀʟʟᴏᴡɪɴɢ the antelope.”
