Old Pregnant Mare Gives Birth To Miracle Twin Foals

You all know that twin pregnancy in horses is very delicate and a lot of time it is very ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀᴏᴜs. “While animals of many species routinely give birth to multiple healthy offspring from one pregnancy, horses are not designed to nourish two fetuses and produce viable twin foals.

Typically, twin horses do not have a high sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴀʟ rate. Horses are simply not designed to carry two babies at once. Twin embryos are usually ᴀʙᴏʀᴛᴇᴅ within the first few weeks of pregnancy. And if they’re not, they run the very real ʀɪsᴋ of ᴅʏɪɴɢ either during or shortly after birth. Many mares have also been lost giving birth to twins. Double pregnancies put the mare and both foals at risk, and good outcomes are ʀᴀʀᴇ.  It is even more complicated when the mare is at an older age. Twin foals are an extremely ʀᴀʀᴇ occurrence. In fact, only about one in 10,000 cases result in twin foals. Of those, only about nine percent will be carried to term. Not only that, but the fact Tiki was 16 years old when she gave birth made her an “older” mom. Now you all got the idea about how ʀᴀʀᴇ the birth of these twins was. I am well aware that despite the miracle of this incredible event and the likelihood of two sets of healthy twins being born to the same mare being akin to being sᴛʀᴜᴄᴋ by lightning twice; there will be many people choosing to put a negative and unkind slant on this. That is fine, we are thrilled that both twins sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇᴅ and feel that it is a balance of fate, luck excellent care and probably a pinch of fairy dust too that saw these two little miracles arrive, survive and win our hearts!”

They are both two amazing beautiful creatures that everyone would like to have around. Mother horse seems really proud of them. I won’t say anything else but invite you all to enjoy the wonderful image and drop a comment in the comment section. If you think that it is worth sharing, feel free to do so. In no time at all, the twins were on their feet, nursing, and ready to explore their new world.
