The Stunning Photos Show A Majestic Elephant Standing Up To Eat

Taken by photographer Bobby-Jo Vial, 36, the images show a bull African elephant stretching out its trunk as it grabs a few leaves to eat. The stunning photos were taken at the Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe in September.

Bobby-Jo said the images were some of the most spectacular she has captured in her career as a photographer.

“It’s a great demonstration of pure power, balance, and agility. This allowed him to easily pull down the best branches. This feeding behavior is quite unique to the African Bull Elephants. Mana Pools is one of the few places where people can observe this. Many years ago I saw some images coming out of Mana Pool of bulls standing on their hind legs browsing the trees. These bulls were given nicknames like Fred Astaire and Boswell.” she said

“It was amazing to see a younger less known guy doing this. I’m sure it’s a learned behavior from observing other bulls. The behavior occurs when food is scarce. At this time of year, food is limited in arid areas like Mana Pools, so elephants have to be creative when trying to forage.”“My friends, family, and followers have loved these images. They were very impressed with this balancing act of the elephant. People have also really noticed the beautiful afternoon light. Many of my friends and family know how passionate I am about elephants and are delighted that I can observe this with my guests.”
